Shame on Comedy Central
So it is okay for South Park, that godawful show I NEVER watch, to show Jesus Christ defecating on the American flag and our president -- which I personally take offense to -- BUT, don't show any picture of Mohammed.
For fear of sounding like a right-wing person -- what's the deal?!?
It's okay to knock Christianity and make fun of Christ and Bush and disgrace our flag, but it's not okay to show a picture of Mohammed?
Why not?
According to CNN.com, "William Donohue of the anti-defamation group Catholic League, called on Parker and Stone to resign out of principle for being censored." He said (again quoting from CNN),
As a co-worker of mine would say, "What is up with that?"
That's what I would like to know.
God Bless

"The ultimate hypocrite is not Comedy Central -- that's their decision not to show the image of Mohammed or not -- it's Parker and Stone," he said. "Like little whores, they'll sit there and grab the bucks. They'll sit there and they'll whine and they'll take their shot at Jesus. That's their stock in trade."I disagree with Mr. Donohue. Parker and Stone have always pushed the envelope on South Park. The real issue here is that Comedy Central, who makes a lot of money off of the show, turns chicken when the religion is Muslim.

Hmmnn.. complicated issue, here. I don't like the writing team of Parker and Stone, either, because they throw everything in, plus the kitchen sink, just for the sake of being obnoxious,shock-value and wealthy. One the one hand, the inclusion of Mohammed in the episode at issue would have provided a sense of completion, as far as a premise that I consider funny, actually, and something that Comedy Central should not have censored. On the other hand, as Buddhism has taught me, as well as Hasidic Judaism, avoid conflict wherever possible, and if it means preventing some retaliatory terrorists from doing their thing, then avoid the Mohammed thing.
However, one must question why the network had to do that through censorship. Certainly, they had the time to include Mohammed by reference or allusion, even including the fact that they couldn't really show him because it would spark retaliation from terrorists. That would have been even more hysterical. So, I guess, in the final analysis, you are right; to outrightly censor, without the writer's awareness, when a compromise was available, is a totalitarian and unjust thing that Comedy Central should suffer for.
