Bush Worried about Arab Message
President George W. Bush says "In order to win the war on terror, we've got to strengthen our relationships and friendships with moderate Arab countries." He believes the failed port deal sends the wrong message to our Arab buddies.
Really?
What message did you not want to send, Mr. President?
The message that if you funded terrorists, which the United Arab Emirates did and if two of the 9/11 hijackers came from your country, we're not turning over the safety and security of our shipping ports over to you.
Apparently, Mr. President, you wanted to send the message that we're tough on terror, but only if you're in a country we're not too keen on.
Personally, I don't think any of our major shipping ports should be controlled by any company that is owned by a foreign company, period. I don't care if the father company is in Britian, we should control our own shipping ports, our own airports and our own roads and borders. We should not be putting the safety of the American public in the hands of someone who isn't an American.
That's the message I want sent to all nations, Mr. President, and you should, too.
God Bless

Bush Rove “Taking one for the team”
This is a very simple scenario. There was never going to really be a port deal with anyone like an Arab country. Karl Rove is not that stupid. He knew, the whole cabinet new what was going on. Mr. Rove set all this up. He knew it would cause political backlash for the Bush administration all along. They set this up and some of the other obvious blunders recently to give the GOP congress a reason to stand up to the Bush administration to look good for there constitutes for the 2006 mid term elections. Bush lashed out with the Veto to make it look like there was a real fight to make them look stronger.
It worked so well when they got John Thune elected in Tom Dashel’s state with all the lobbying, they said they where going to close Ellsworth Air Base so he could fight the pentagon to look good for his new constitutes & it worked. All of this will come together if the press doesn’t wake up and look under the covers. This is Rove 101 distract and slide in the back door. I pray someone figures this out soon before the next neo-conservative comes along riding on his shirttails.
If this is from Rove's playbook, I think he's lost his mind.
The President is weaker now than a month ago, and a month ago, he was pretty weak.
Bush can deal with the (friendly) leaders in the Middle East.
He likes them and they like him.
He never thought this deal would be a problem. Mostly because he doesn't believe his rhetoric.
I'd bet he was shocked and awed by the response of the public on this deal.
I dont think it matters if Bush is weaker now, he's done. He is letting his team GOP stand up to him. This is basic 101 politics.
The idea that Carl Rove set the whole port deal up as a straw man, so that Republican neo-cons could look good knocking it down, is a a might ridiculous. as Rove is a pro-Bush strategist, and not a Republican activist. The fact that a neo-con gets elected in Tom Daschel's turf is no proof that your idea is sensible, as Daschel's state is so fascistic and regressive, it just basically outlawed abortion. Also, the Democrats look even better than they do already, because they, also, mostly moved to block the port deal; Republicans, therefore, can't claim a distinguishing ownership of this action. If this WAS Rove's strategy, he'd have to have turned into a moron overnight, because it won't save the Republicans from losing both Houses in the Mid Terms. Mark my words, the Dems are re-taking both Houses.
I think you are right as to the dems taking both houses:)... I also believe the rep's are desperate and believe my therory to some extent. Rove has no one after Bush leaves. He is also loyal to the GOP. He will help them.
I agree with Lee. I don't think Rove and Bush got together to roll out this plan so the Republicans look strong. I think they look even weaker from this standpoint. I think Bush considers this country our friends, like he thinks of the Saudis, despite intelligence to the contrary. I think he figured we -- the American Public -- would just fall in line behind him.
